What made you start teaching in the first place?
I thought I had a nice style in my dancing and why keep it to myself and bury it with me? Why not pass it on to other ladies who could use it?
Do you think you will stop teaching?
Two things would stop me teaching: if my body gives out on me and I can’t do the job well, and, if I see a dancer up there on the stage and feel like I am looking in the mirror, if I see myself in her.
What are you working on now?
I just finished an advanced choreography DVD featuring Setrak’s Samara. The choreography is performed and then broken down step by step. It features twelve of the best dancers in Metro Detroit. I’m really happy with it.
Is this your first instructional DVD?
No, I did a video in 1986 for beginners, but I took it off the market.
Why did you take the beginner’s video off of the market?
Because I was overweight. Eight years before that video I quit dancing. I sat home, not teaching, not dancing, just sitting home, eating and watching TV. I weighed 161 pounds. I lost weight to do the video – down to 137, but still, I was overweight.
How much do you weight now?
125. (Madiha is only about 5’1.)
Are you going to re-release this older video?
Yes, I am offering it for sale on the web site.
