The Belly Dancer as Visual Music

Using prominent local dancers – Aziza Amar, Amira, and Johara AlIraqia – Princess Madiha will explain how the dancer is the music when she dances. Princess Madiha and those who have studied with her will be available to assist workshop participants.

10:00 AM to 11:00 AM Egyptian Rhythms with Aziza Amar
Aziza Amar demonstrates how each instrument can be shown with movement so that the audience sees, rather than hears, the music.
11:00 AM to Noon Presence, Poses, and Transitions with Amira
Amira demonstrates how to show the music while posing or transitioning between steps.
Noon to 1:00 PM Lunch (on your own)
1:00 PM to 2:00 PM Making an Entrance with Johara AlIraqia
Johara AlIraqia demonstrates how to show the music even as you make your way on stage.
2:00 PM to 3:00 PM Zilling Bootcamp with Aida Al-Adawi
Aida Al-Adawi of San Francisco shares her unique expertise as both a musician and a dancer.
